“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.“ Romans 16:17-18
Every summer, Antioch Baptist Church hosts a decently-sized King James Bible Conference, and the 2018 King James Bible Conference was no different. We were expecting visitors from over thirty different churches, “featuring Pastors James Knox, Joe Cammilleri, Brent Logan, Tim Crotts, Rob Carlson, Jason Boger, and Noah Broughton, and Evangelists Douglas Stauffer and Ken McDonald.” In contrast to the years before, Pastor Andrew Ray assigned every speaker a passage from chapter three of 1 Corinthians, focusing around the theme of “Learning to Build.” Douglas Stauffer, assigned 1 Corinthians 3:1-3, proudly opened up the conference during the morning service, as was to be expected considering the place of prominence he had developed with the pastor and inner circle. A few minutes in, we suppose that he became hyper-aware of the vast number of open seats and the obvious lack of people attending from our own church. Likely to save-face and cushion his pride, Stauffer went outside of his assigned verses and for a third time from the pulpit, attacked the people that left. This time, however, was especially vicious, as he exclaimed that the mass exodus was “the best thing that could have happened.” Stauffer compared them to babies sucking their thumbs that can still be heard “slurping on the milk.” Watch below to listen to the most carnal message on carnality I have heard in over two decades of being an Independent Fundamental Baptist.

June 3, 2018, Douglas Stauffer, King James Bible Conference 2018
“…The grammar- the grammar person [Mrs. Lois]. Look at 1st Corinthians chapter three. Let’s look at what the text says.
“And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it…” [1 Corinthians 3:1-2a]
And here’s the sad thing: “…neither yet now are ye able.” [1 Corinthians 2b]
And let’s look at verse three, even though it’s not part of mine: “For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, ARE YE NOT CARNAL, and walk as men?” [1 Corinthians 3:1-3]
‘Walk as men?’ That’s just funny to me. You know, adults don’t talk to other adults with baby talk. We talk to newborns with baby talk. But Paul had to treat these believers and talk to them with some baby talk because they were carnal. Because they were still babies. Paul rebuked these believers in the church because there was envy and strife, meaning competition amongst- you know, not good competition. A division. They were walking as men. Now, I don’t know about you- well- you know, I look at that- well, ‘walking as men’ what are you supposed to walk like? Well, you’re not supposed to walk like the world. You’re supposed to be peculiar. We’re not supposed to be normal. ALL Christians are to begin with milk, and then grow up and move to the meat. Do you know there are Christians that have been saved thirty and forty years in their life and still on the milk? I’ve met ‘em. You know, one of the biggest factors you can hear, when you listen to them, you can st- you can- you can-you can almost hear ‘em slurpin’ on the milk. They complain. All the time. Complain. Complain. Complain. Listen, we had a church rupture that I think was one of the greatest things we could have here because the major complainers left. That’s NOT a bad thing! You, you gotta realize that. Listen. Everybody likes numbers, but if numbers are just a bunch of babies sucking their thumb, you don’t need that. Listen, you try to help a baby grow up, but when the baby determines, ‘I’m going to stay a baby,’ after being saved for thirty and forty years, there’s nothing you can do for ‘em.
I want to look at two different things: five reasons why Christians find spiritual growth so difficult to achieve and then….”
